SUMMER 2003 in the NEWS Faculty News Assistant Professor Ozlem Ergun has received the CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation. Associate Professor Amy Pritchett was awarded the prestigious "Excellence Faculty Award" at the 2003 Georgia Tech Women in Engineering banquet. Julie Swann and Paul Griffin have received the NSF Engineering the Service Sector Award for "Designing an Optimal Financing Mechanism for Dental Care Among the Elderly." Swann also received the NSF Manufacturing Enterprise Systems Award for "Coordinating Pricing and Inventory Control," with David Simchi-Levi of MIT. Professor Kwok Tsui and Professor Emeritus Harry Wadsworth were elected in 2003 as Fellows of the American Statistical Association. The fellow status is the highest grade given to ASA members. Assistant Professor Roshan Joseph Vengazhiyil has received a 2002 Distinguished Dissertation Award from the University of Michigan's Rackham Graduate School. It is the most prestigious award given by the School. He is the first winner of the award from the Department of Statistics, where he received his Ph.D. in 2002. Jeff Wu, Coca-Cola Chair in Engineering Statistics, has been elected a Fellow of the American Society of Quality. This distinction is reserved for ASQ members who have demonstrated active participation and significant contributions to the quality community.
