Special Issue of Journal of Operations Management
The Journal of Operations Management invites papers for a special
issue on theory-driven empirical research. Researchers in operations management
are now beginning to recognize the need for more empirically based research
that is directed primarily at theory building. With this new orientation,
our focus is to build, develop, refine and test theories or frameworks.
These theories provide new perspectives on the events and activities taking
place in operations management. With this shift in focus comes a need for
new research tools and perspectives. This special issue is devoted to gaining
a better understanding of the issues, approaches and problems present when
undertaking theory-driven empirical research.
Suggested topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Discussion of the traits of effective theory-driven empirical research
- Differences between theory building research, problem solving and theory
testing research
- Definition and exploration of the major terms and constructs found in
theory-driven research (e.g., models, frameworks, constructs, theories)
- Identification, assessment and application of alternative tools useful
in theory-driven empirical research (e.g., qualitative research methodologies,
triangulation)
The deadline for submission of papers is Aug. 31, 1996.
