OR/MS Today - December 2001 Letters to the Editor Conference Affirms Collective Resolve To the editor: I am writing this note to commend the organizers and all the participants of the INFORMS National Meeting in Miami. At a time when the risk associated with travel is still unreasonably large and with the threat of a hurricane over our heads, operations researchers and management scientists, nevertheless, felt a strong pull to take part in the first meeting following the attacks of Sept. 11 and their aftermath. Many individuals that I spoke to felt that participation was extremely important and that it was necessary to do it for the field. To have speakers from as far away as Hong Kong, Korea and Poland attests to our sense of community and spirit. Personally, it felt terrific to be back to "conferencing" again, and when the sun rose over the ocean on Tuesday morning, it seemed to affirm our collective resolve. Thanks to all for making this meeting so special and memorable. Anna Nagurney University of Massachusetts Amherst, Mass.
