Transportation Faculty Position

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Washington is embarking on an ambitious multiyear period of growth and renewal. As part of this initiative, applications are being solicited for a tenure-track faculty position in transportation engineering. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, (1) sustainable transportation infrastructure (e.g., sustainability and environmental stewardship as related to construction activities, sustainability assessment/accounting, life-cycle assessment and information technology related to monitoring and performance), (2) large-scale transportation systems (e.g., transportation network analysis, traffic flow models, transportation system engineering, and operations research), and (3) transportation system demand modeling (e.g., travel demand forecasting, land-use and transportation interaction, transportation network modeling, macroscopic traffic simulation, and transportation planning). Candidates at all professorial ranks will be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an internationally recognized research program and to participate in the teaching and service missions of the department. Candidates capable of developing collaborative relationships in research and teaching are of particular interest. Candidates at the rank of associate or full professor with an established reputation as a leader in their area of expertise are strongly encouraged to apply. A PhD in civil engineering or related discipline is required. Applications should include a cover letter, CV, a concise personal statement describing the candidate’s vision for research and education and potential areas of collaboration within and outside of the department, and a list of at least three references. Applicant review will begin 15 December 2008 and will continue until the position is filled. Applications must be submitted at http://www.engr.washington.edu/facsearch/?dept=Cee. The UW is building a culturally diverse faculty and strongly encourages applications from female and minority candidates. The UW is the recipient of a 2006 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Faculty Career Flexibility and a 2001 National Science Foundation ADVANCE Institutional Transformation Award to increase the advancement of women faculty in science, engineering, and math (see www.engr.washington.edu/advance). The University is an EO/AA Employer. All positions are contingent on the availability of funding.
