SAS Establishes Center of Excellence in Operations Research Applications

"If you treat employees as if they make a difference to the company, they will," says SAS President & CEO, Dr. James Goodnight.

SAS announces the formation of a new Center of Excellence in Operations Research Applications. This Center represents the second phase of SAS' investment in Operations Research. In its first phase of investment, SAS expanded its OR R&D group to create competitive solver technology in optimization to accompany powerful tools for inventory optimization, project management and scheduling, and discrete event simulation. This OR technology currently supports SAS' business solutions in many areas, including customer relationship management, financial services, and the retail industry. The role of the new Center extends beyond traditional product development to include technical pre-sales and consulting support, customized solution development, and promotion and evangelization of OR to customers and the sales force.

SAS Institute is actively seeking talented and experienced OR professionals to staff positions at this Center:

  • OR Specialist: Duties will primarily comprise applications development, including creation and implementation of customized algorithms. Candidates require a Ph.D. in Operations Research or a related area, with interest and experience in applications development, broad knowledge of OR with demonstrated research-level expertise, and outstanding modeling and problem-solving abilities.
  • Analytical Consultant: Duties will primarily involve providing expert OR modeling, solution development, and implementation support for SAS professional services and pre-sales engagements. Candidates require a Ph.D. in Operations Research or a related area, with significant experience in OR consulting engagements, broad knowledge of OR and related analytical areas, and outstanding modeling and problem-solving abilities, as well as communication and presentation skills.
  • Systems Engineer: Duties will involve providing pre-sales support for business units, including demos, presentations, and evangelization of OR, assessing business opportunities for SAS/OR and other products created by the Center, and interfacing with product management and marketing.
