Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of the Institute for Healthcare Studies (IHS). We seek to recruit a senior rank, tenure eligible individual with a record of scholarly excellence in a discipline within the broad field of healthcare studies/health services research who also has proven leadership skills and ability.

The Director will be in a position to capitalize on health service research opportunities across the University and within Northwestern's clinical affiliates (hospitals, including VA, and clinical practices). The Director should have the ability to build on existing strengths in the focus areas of the current IHCS (communication in medicine, health care equity, patient safety, health economics, and health literacy).

The Director will provide leadership that will maintain the robust record of output from the institute, assist departments in the medical school and elsewhere in collaborative research on health care outcomes, and to build new areas of strength according to the interests of the new leader and any new faculty members recruited by the leader.

The successful candidate should hold an MD, MD/PhD (must be board certified), or PhD degree and would qualify for an appointment at the Professor level in an academic department of the medical school.
