Bar code interface
MAPICS COM On-line Interface (MCOI), by Data Collection Systems, Inc., is
a new software option that provides DCSI Data Collection and Warehouse Management
Systems the ability to send pick and ship transactions directly to MAPICS
Customer Order Management (COM). Because MCOI bypasses the resource intensive
COM transaction entry screens, the overall processor impact of implementing
COM may be reduced. COM picking and shipping transactions, in both controlled
and uncontrolled warehouses, are supported by all DCSI bar code systems
when combined with MCOI. Data Collection transactions are provided to support
pick confirmation and non-pick confirmation environments. Packing lists
and bills of lading can also be generated. Real-time validation of all transactional
data ensures accurate shipments and shipping documentation.

Configurable network computing
OneWorld, by J.D. Edwards, delivers platform-independent, network-centric
technology to the multinational, enterprisewide applications market. Called
Configurable Network Computing (CNC), the new architecture builds on an
object-based foundation and aims to provide greater flexibility, scalability
and ease of systems management than traditional client/server solutions.
CNC incorporates technologies designed to deliver the power and flexibility
of networked applications, including event-driven objects and dynamic partitioning.
OneWorld applications are built by linking business objects with event rules.
The objects are reused to build and tailor applications at the specification
level instead of at the code level, thus speeding up development and deployment
time. Dynamic partitioning allows objects and data to be distributed across
networks at run time to take advantage of available processing power. CNC
is also platform neutral, meaning a single OneWorld application can run
unchanged on a variety of systems.

Manufacturing software
JBA International's System 21 Manufacturing, part of the JBA System 21 integrated
business system, is designed to support the diverse needs of both the repetitive
production and process industry sectors, where customer service is increasingly
a critical factor. System 21 is a client/server and object-enabled successor
to Business 400, JBA's solution for the AS/400. The new open-systems software
runs on the AS/400 or UNIX platforms. The software supports planning, scheduling,
reporting, controlling and measurement. The system is designed around a
totally integrated database, which provides management information on all
aspects of manufacturing activity.

Label printer applicator
Imtec, Inc., has released X2 Turbo version of their ApplyPro bar code label
printer applicator. It is used in applications requiring on-demand automated
labeling. These applications are typically found in shipping, distribution,
packagingand product labeling. The X2 Turbo is designed specifically for
high-speed, tamp apply labeling. Using a 12-inches-per-second printer, the
X2 Turbo is able to print and apply labels at speeds up to 85 labels per
minute. As a member of the ApplyPro family, the X2 Turbo uses modular construction,
making it easy to adapt to varying application requirements. Using "plug
and play" components, integration of the unit is simplified.

Radio module
Teklogix, Inc. has developed a new narrow band radio module with transmission
rates up to 19.2 K baud. This increased baud rate provides a high data transfer
rate without affecting a system's existing radio frequency transmission
range or coverage relative to Teklogix' narrow band radios running at 9,600
baud. The design of the 19.2 K radio modules allow systems to maintain,
or even increase, data transfer rates regardless of FCC channel spacing
requirements. The 19.2 radio module, model TRX7355, allows for more sophisticated
applications of Teklogix' wireless data communication systems within a facility.
Since the TRX7355 maintains data transfer rates without decreasing the RF
transmission range, the system is supported by existing hardware.
