August 1997 Volume 7 Number 8 APICS Report APICS Web Site Access on UUNET Editor's Note: We reported in last month's issue that UUNET was APICS' new Internet provider. Following are some tips from JoAnna Battin, APICS Web editor, on accessing the APICS site on UUNET and confirming that users are receiving the most up-to-date information. Now that the APICS Web site is back up and fully running on the new server, we have become aware of several problems accessing our new site. Specifically, Industry.net, our old Internet provider, has not shut down our server even though we are now with UUNET. Thus, the old data is still accessible. Don't worry. Here's a way of making sure that you are viewing the most recent data. First, point your browser to http://www.apics.org. After you have reached the site, check the URL. If you see http://www.apics.org you are viewing the correct information. But, if you see http://www.industry.net/apics with a red jelly bean and the words Industry.net in the logo at the top of the page, then you are at the old site. To straighten things out you only need to make a few adjustments to access the new information. More than likely the problem can easily be solved by clearing the cache memory. Most browsers include this option on their menus. If you cannot find it, contact technical support for your browser and find out how to do it. After your cache memory has been cleared, shut down your browser and then re-open it. Once again, point your browser to http://www.apics.org and you should be accessing the correct site. If everything goes smoothly, you should not be reaching the old site unless you have bookmarked any old pages. If so, make sure to delete the old bookmarks and bookmark the pages again. If you're not having problems, then you have been viewing the updated pages all along. Any questions or comments regarding the new site should be e-mailed to [email protected] |
