Constraints Management Symposium Set for April
The 1997 Constraints Management Symposium and Technical Exhibit
will be held April 17-18 in Denver. With the theme, "Make Common
Sense a Common Practice," the symposium is designed to help attendees
analyze their operations, whether they are in manufacturing, service,
government/military, or not-for-profit organizations, and overcome
the constraints that prevent optimal performance. One of the
highlights of the program is featured speaker Eliyahu M. Goldratt,
Ph.D., author of "The Goal" and "It's Not Luck," a leading authority
on the theory of constraints (TOC).
Sponsored by the Constraints Management SIG, the symposium is a
multifaceted program that offers:
- hands-on educational workshops demonstrating how to use TOC
concepts for change management, performance measures and
logistical solutions
- technical sessions taught by industry professionals who will
offer evidence of the success of TOC implementation in their work
environments
- an exhibit displaying the latest tools and techniques to
support the applications of constraints management in any
organization.
Among the companies presenting case studies of successful TOC
implementations are Rockwell Automotive, i2 Technologies, Bethlehem
Steel Corporation, Deloitte & Touche, Boeing North America,
AlliedSignal, and the U.S. Navy.

APICS Signs Manufacturing CEO to Address '97 Conference
Katherine Hudson, president and CEO of the W.H. Brady Co., has
agreed to address the Tuesday, Oct. 28, general session at APICS '97,
the APICS International Conference and Exhibition in Washington, D.C.
Hudson joins corporate expert and author Tom Peters, who is the
featured speaker on Wednesday, Oct. 29. The conference will be held
on Oct. 26-29.
Based in Milwaukee, Hudson serves as the top manager of W.H.
Brady, an international manufacturer of coated films that produces
high-performance labels, signs, specialty tapes and industrial
printing systems. She oversees a company of more than 2,000 employees
with operations in 15 countries.
In assuming the CEO position with Brady in January 1994, Hudson
became the first female chief executive of a major public company in
Wisconsin. She joined Brady after a successful 23-year career with
Eastman Kodak Co., where she was a divisional vice president and the
top-ranking female executive in the company. She is credited for
tripling earnings in one of the Kodak business units she managed.
Hudson is known for her talent at communicating with employees,
characterized by her "walkaround" management style. She often walks
the factory floors to conduct informal discussions with Brady's work
force. Hudson also is known for her sense of humor. While at Kodak,
she once sent IBM a pair of pink socks for submitting a proposal that
"knocked her socks off."
