November 1997 Volume 7 Number 11 Online Ordering Available, As Promised... By Kenneth S. Moser, CNA, CNSA This new facility allows you to order educational materials from APICS via the Web. While APICS only ships orders on business days, you may place orders any time that it is convenient for you to do so. Best of all, the new order system has been integrated right into our existing online catalog. As shown in Figure 1, the online catalog allows you to search for books and other educational materials by title, author, subject, or any mix of these attributes.
You provide this information and then click the Search button, and the catalog will display all matching items. Up to this point, nothing has changed you merely click on any item listed here for detailed information on it. At this point, however, the catalog will present you with two new options: Add or View. If you press the Add button, the item you selected will be added to your shopping cart, which is displayed onscreen. Figure 2 (below) shows what it looked like in one of my tests. You may adjust the quantity of any item as desired, or delete items from the cart by setting their quantity to zero just remember to click the Calculate button to update totals. If you want to review or add more items, you simply click on the Shop button to go back to the previous screen. When your cart contains all the items you would like to buy, press the Check Out button. At this point, your browser should switch to a secure session and bring up a form that asks for contact, shipping and billing information. You will have an opportunity to review your shopping cart and change your order until you reach the very end of the form and press the button which submits your order. By clicking this button, you register your order with APICS. Your order will be shipped on the next business day. We hope you enjoy this new option and find it to be a useful service. Meanwhile, for those of you who would like more information on Web page design, I found a rather unique site last month http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com. The title may be a bit direct, but the examples and advice given here is top-notch I just hope none of our sites ever show up here!
