Supply chain management
Datalogix International Inc. has introduced software that now
enables process manufacturers to exchange critical supply chain
information over the World Wide Web. Customers, plants, suppliers and
salespeople can now connect to Datalogix' CIMPRO applications with
Web browsers to place orders, share manufacturing data and analyze
sales information over the Internet. This Internet approach is more
cost-effective than dedicated network connections and more efficient
than voice phones and the mail. The new Web-enabled CIMPRO allows
mid-sized chemical, food and beverage, consumer packaged goods,
biotechnology companies and other manufacturers to provide
inexpensive access to their inventory, ordering and manufacturing
information. CIMPRO's Web client includes performance accelerators
that take advantage of the Internet's architecture. The Web client
downloads and reuses critical system information, such as screen
formats and dictionary elements, until changes are made to the host
versions. This reduces time-consuming data transfer over the network.

Wireless connectivity
AllianceWare 2000, from Alliance Systems Inc., is a family of
inter-networking software products. AllianceWare 2000 provides
high-speed, enterprisewide connectivity solutions across multiple
wireless and wireline data networks including ARDIS, RAM Mobile Data,
Cellular CDPD and Circuit Switched, and Motorola and Ericsson Private
Networks. By supporting native host protocols, the need for external
agent processes is eliminated, thereby allowing connectivity and
increased functionality with virtually no modification to existing
legacy applications or systems. AllianceWare 2000 provides visibility
into message processing at the system, module, user and driver
levels. A system watchdog process provides fault tolerance and error
recovery. Because AllianceWare 2000 is horizontally and vertically
scaleable, the software allows the user to expand the system by
simply adding new hardware and software features rather than
replacing the entire system.
