What's New

New APICS Board of Directors Takes Office
The new APICS board of directors took office effective Jan. 1, led by Andrew D. Nicoll, CFPIM, CIRM, C.P.M., 1996 APICS president. The board will serve a one-year term. Nicoll has adopted the theme "Harmonizing Business Solutions" for the upcoming year, which also is the theme for APICS '96, the international conference and exhibition set for next October in New Orleans.

"In the business world, a company must harmonize its relationships between employees and customers while continuously looking for innovative business solutions to help expand its products and services to attract new customers," Nicoll said. "At APICS, we must take this same market-driven approach to better expand and adapt our educational products and services."

A resident of Peoria, Ill., Nicoll is a procurement manager with Caterpillar Inc. He has held managerial positions at Caterpillar in manufacturing, inventory control, logistics, systems development and purchasing. He is a graduate of Purdue University with a B.S. in industrial management and holds an MBA degree from Bradley University, where he has taught courses in materials management. Nicoll holds the APICS professional designations of Certified Fellow in Production and Inventory Management (CFPIM) and Certified in Integrated Resource Management (CIRM). He is a member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, the Automotive Industry Action Group and is a Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) in the National Association of Purchasing Management.

Prior to being elected APICS president, Nicoll served as executive vice president for education and as secretary/treasurer. He has been an active member of APICS since 1985, and has served on the society's board of directors for the last six years.

Christopher Thiel, CEM, Joins APICS as Director of Conference and Meetings
Christopher Thiel, CEM, a professional meeting planner, recently joined APICS as director of conference and meetings. Thiel directs all aspects of APICS meeting and exhibition planning, including seminars, symposia and the annual conference.

Conference

Many 1995 APICS Conference Exhibitors Already Signed for '96
Over half of the exhibitors at the 1995 APICS International Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Fla., already have reserved booth space at APICS '96 next October in New Orleans. According to a survey of exhibitors in Orlando, a large percentage of the respondents were impressed with the high quality of leads for potential new business. As a result, 93 of the 168 exhibitors in Orlando have made reservations for booth space in New Orleans-many of them requesting larger booths than they had in 1995.

Rockwell Corp. Presents Gift to E&R; Foundation at 1995 APICS International Conference and Exhibition
Kent Black, chief operating officer of Rockwell Corp., presented a check for $5,000 to Brooke Saladin, Ph.D., CFPIM, president of the APICS Educational and Research (E&R;) Foundation, at the 1995 APICS International Conference and Exhibition this past October in Orlando, Fla.
