Price Waterhouse has unveiled an open tools strategy for implementing SAP's R/3 embracing SAP's Reference Model. The firm announced that it will utilize IntelliCorp's LiveModel and Visio Corp's Visio Business Modeler to integrate with the SAP Reference Model/Implementation Guide. Price Waterhouse is currently working with Visio and IntelliCorp to incorporate their modeling tools into Price Waterhouse's integrated suite of R/3 tools, PW PowerSuite. PowerSuite integrates Price Waterhouse's R/3 knowledge bases, templates, methods and tools to deliver integrated project support to its SAP clients.
IntelliCorp's LiveModel is a modeling tool that speeds R/3 implementations by enabling business users to better understand the R/3 System and to articulate their business requirements. Visio Corp's Visio Business Modeler tool is designed for the evaluation and analysis of processes represented in SAP's R/3 business application solution. Hewlett-Packard Company today announced it is incorporating Microsoft Windows NT technologies and expertise into all of its enterprise-consulting and systems-integration practices. The practices - resources of HP's worldwide Professional Services Organization -help companies elevate Microsoft Windows NT into enterprise-scale systems environments while retaining the companies' existing information technology (IT) infrastructures. Many industry-watchers believe that no single server platform will dominate enterprise computing in the years to come. HP's Microsoft Windows NT consulting and education services address the reality that many Fortune 2000 companies have multiple operating-system environments and need to manage those environments with a common infrastructure. Specific projects, such as those designed to reduce enterprise-computing costs, may incorporate a joint technology-assessment service from HP and Microsoft. Other projects might include a Microsoft Windows NT and HP-UX messaging solution.

A new study from Killen & Associates projects a $320 Billion market through 1999 for outsourcing and systems integration companies who provide year 2000 date change, Euro (Europe's new common currency) conversion, and Internet/Intranet services. Companies who will compete for a share of these revenues include Andersen Consulting, Cap Gemini, CSC, IBM Global Services, EDS, Siemens-Nixdorf, and many others.
Gerard Jousset, General Manager, Western Region, IBM Global Services (Paris) cautioned, "You can see the market for systems integration and outsourcing heat up as we get closer to the Euro and the year 2000. We, the industry, may not have enough capacity to fill the need." Robert Gogel, Executive Vice President, Finance, Siemens-Nixdorf (Frankfurt) notes, "We are getting many requests to help companies modify their systems to perform calculations based on the Euro."
The Killen study, "Outsourcing and Systems Integration: Growth Industries for the Millennium," states that year 2000 date-change opportunities span all regions of the world. The Euro conversion creates opportunities primarily in Europe. The management and operation of companies' Internet and Intranet resources are presently restricted to highly developed nations.
