Darwin Now Runs on Starfire

2/11/97
5:49 PM

Thinking Machines has ported Darwin, a high-end, scalable data mining solution, to Sun Microsystems' new Starfire server. Starfire, also known as the Ultra Enterprise 10000, offers both symmetric multiprocessing and parallel processing. Darwin is a data mining application used to reveal patterns, trends and correlations lying hidden in very large databases.

Starfire servers scale to 64 processors, 64 GB memory with over 20 TB of online storage. When running Darwin on Starfire, using a neural network, users have access to linear scalability, meaning they may realize an increase in performance that is directly proportional to the number of processors added.
