Laimbeer, a former NBA All-Star, will share his insights into leadership and competitiveness in the business world, while discussing how Laimbeer Packaging uses advanced design, prototype and production technologies to turn out best-in-class packaging products.

After retiring from The Detroit Pistons in 1993, Laimbeer became president and CEO of Laimbeer Packaging's two Detroit-area corrugated container facilities in 1994, and a Flint (Mich.) plant in 1996.

HP Enterprise Link Now Available on Windows NT

Hewlett-Packard Company has announced the availability of its HP Enterprise Link middleware product on the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 operating system. Customers can now use HP Enterprise Link on either HP-UX servers or on servers based on Intel microprocessors and the Windows NT operating system to unify plant manufacturing systems and the SAP R/3 business system.

HP Enterprise Link is a certified software framework that integrates enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems with real-time manufacturing systems from leading control vendors. Its main elements are a graphical configuration tool and a run-time data server.

CSC Creates Task Force

In response to the recent Food and Drug Administration ruling that recognizes the validity of electronic records and signatures throughout the FDA-regulated healthcare industries, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) has formed a task force to develop practical strategies for companies that wish to employ such technologies.

The task force &endash; comprising 15 consultants from CSC Healthcare, three professionals currently working for pharmaceutical companies, and one representative from the FDA &endash; is building a set of ground rules and parameters from which a deployment strategy for electronic records and signatures can be devised.

These concepts are based primarily on task force members' knowledge of the industry and best-practice experiences in the delivery of similar systems and strategies in other regulated industries.

Manufacturers Eligible for Deduction

Manufacturers holding production overruns, canceled orders, discontinued products and stagnant inventory can turn those goods into a federal income tax deduction by donating them to a qualified charity.

Under Section 170 (e)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code, regular (C) corporations may deduct the cost of the inventory donated, plus half the difference between cost and fair market value. Deductions may be up to twice cost.

IBM Designs New Web Site for Drum Corps

IBM's Interactive Media group has announced its continued support of the Drum Corps International (DCI) 1997 Summer Music Games being held in Orlando, Fla. As part of this agreement, IBM Interactive Media will produce the video, CD and TV versions of the competition and provide on-site sales of these products.

It will also assist DCI in redesigning its Web site, and will "cybercast" some of the events on the Web Site.

The new DCI Web site (http://www.dci.org) includes tour information, schedules, scores, performance sound bytes, video clips, a bulletin board and e-mail section.
