Protean 2.0 enterprise resource planning (ERP) software now
includes two new applications -- Plant Planning and Quick Scheduler.
Plant Planning offers simultaneous planning of materials, capacity
and other resources critical to the production environment. It
utilizes Marcam's Production Model (designed specifically for process
manufacturers), so it provides full support for co-product planning.
Quick Scheduler, fully integrated with Plant Planning, enables
manufacturers to fine-tune production schedules to smooth out
production activity and resolve capacity conflicts. It provides a
graphical user interface allowing the user to visualize and resolve
capacity conflicts and competing demands. Using finite-forward
loading logic, Quick Scheduler maximizes resource utilization and
minimizes changeovers. Protean 2.0 is now available in a 32-bit
version, and utilizes Microsoft's Component Object Model (COM)

ExpertTrac is a dynamic production tracking and scheduling system
that provides tight control of manufacturing processes. It is built
on top of Gensym's G2, a real-time intelligent system (see
Intelligent Manufacturing, February 1996). ExpertTrac
users can create graphical representations of equipment and
manufacturing processes. It allows for dynamic on-line modification
of the process layout as equipment or process paths change. When
order status changes or equipment goes down, ExpertTrac's dynamic
cascade scheduling reschedules the entire downstream process. It also
