No. 7
Bay Networks Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.), a manufacturer of network
communications products, has signed an agreement with Enterprise
Planning Systems Corp. (Chicago, Ill.) to use their APS: Enterprise
product to implement materials requirements replanning and simulation
capabilities. The license agreement incorporates the use of the
Advanced Planning System (APS) to allow Bay Networks to perform rapid
MRP replanning, in addition to implementing the suite of applications
available for inventory analysis and what-if simulation scenarios
against their installed MRPII system. The project to implement APS:
Enterprise has been initiated and the system is expected to be
implemented within 30 working days.
FSI International Inc. (Chaska, Minn.), a manufacturer of
automated surface conditioning equipment for processing silicon
wafers, has contracted with Rand Technologies (Mississauga, Ont.,
Canada) for a "total solution" consisting of a fully integrated
computer-aided engineering and manufacturing system. This system will
be based on Pro/Engineer software from Parametric Technology Corp.
(Waltham, Mass.). Rand Technologies is a value-added reseller of
mechanical design automation tools, and the deal with FSI is said to
be worth $4.2 million.
Vivus Inc. (Menlo Park, Calif.), a supplier of advanced
therapeutic systems for the treatment of impotence, has opened a new
$3.5 million manufacturing facility in Lakewood, N.J. The new good
manufacturing practices (GMP)-level pharmaceutical production
facilities are completely self-contained and of modular design for
flexibility in engineering for capacity increases, future additional
automation, and addition of new product lines.
Vivus' new facility is located within the facilities of PACO
Pharmaceutical Services. Vivus' 6,000-square-foot facility includes
formulation, filling and packaging suites, dry and cold storage
areas, analytical laboratories, offices and records retention and
training rooms. The facility was completed on budget and ahead of
schedule through a fast-track program involving pre-purchasing of
major electrical and mechanical equipment and early involvement of
the validation team.
Computer manufacturer Digital Equipment Corp. (Maynard, Mass.) has
licensed Rhythm, an intelligent planning and scheduling software
product from i2 Technologies Inc. (Dallas, Tex.), for worldwide
planning and scheduling of its Systems Business Unit. The license
will cover the use of Rhythm in Digital manufacturing plants in the
U.S., Canada, Scotland, Singapore, and Taiwan.
Datastream Systems Inc. (Greenville, S.C.), a supplier of
maintenance and facility management software, has received orders
from Frito-Lay (Dallas, Tex.), a manufacturer of salty snacks, and
Emerson Electric (St. Louis, Mo.), a manufacturer of electronic and
electrical products, for its MP2 for Windows maintenance management
software. Installations of Data-stream's software have begun and are
planned to continue at over 150 of the two companies' manufacturing
sites. Both Frito-Lay and Emerson anticipate a reduction in
maintenance costs by greatly reducing the downtime associated with
key equipment failure.
