SAP Plans Automotive Development Center
SAP America Inc. (Wayne, Pa.), a supplier of enterprise
resource planning (ERP) software solutions, plans to open an
Automotive Development Center, near Detroit, to support the
enterprise software needs of individual automotive manufacturers and
suppliers, as well as the industry at large. The new SAP center will
open in Southfield, Mich., during the third quarter of 1996 and will
be staffed with 50 software engineers and industry experts. It will
provide pre- and post-sales consulting and development resources to
create and support unique software solutions for the automotive
industry.
The center is designed to support companies in the automotive
industry throughout North America and the world. The center builds on
the Industry Center of Expertise (ICOE), though which SAP is
currently serving its automotive customers.
SAP currently supports more than 400 automotive industry companies
worldwide with its suite of ERP applications. Its customers include
major automobile manufacturers such as BMW, Chrysler, General Motors,
Mercedes-Benz, Toyota and Volkswagen, as well as leading automotive
parts suppliers. SAP provides such resources as third-party
warehousing, electronic Kanban, supply chain management for assembly
ordering, support for concurrent engineering, special billing
requirements, and release
accounting.
