Intergraph Signs "Virtual" Deal with Deneb Robotics

Intergraph Software Solutions (Huntsville, Ala.), a developer of integrated software for technical desktop applications, has signed an agreement with Deneb Robotics (Auburn Hills, Mich.), a provider of three-dimensional software for virtual factory simulation and other applications involving remote control of automated devices and immersion into virtual reality environments. The deal will enable Intergraph to resell Deneb's Virtual NC and Ultra interactive simulation software packages. The agreement extends a previous contract between the two companies that allows Intergraph to resell Deneb's IGRIP simulation software. Hardware support now includes Silicon Graphics, Sun and Intergraph workstations.

Deneb's Virtual NC is a 3-D interactive simulation environment specifically designed for visualizing and analyzing the functionality of a machine tool, its CNC controller, and the material removal process. It is being used to prove out NC programs, setup configurations, advanced machine tools and complex machining processes. Virtual NC provides a dynamic environment for concurrent engineering, rapid prototyping, machine tool and machining simulation, and operator training.

Intergraph will also resell Deneb's application-specific Ultra interactive 3-D simulation products. These software packages enable users to rapidly prototype and evaluate robotic manufacturing processes, verify tooling concepts, optimize workcell design and layout, determine workcell cycle times and throughput, confirm reachability, and generate off-line programs for robots within the workcell.

EMS Acquires Intercim

Effective Management Systems (Milwaukee, Wis.), a manufacturing software company, has agreed to acquire Intercim (Minneapolis, Minn.), a rival manufacturing software company. The companies focus on complementary segments of manufacturing operations.

Intercim had $4.5 million in revenues last year and employs 30 people. EMS is a $23 million company with 170 employees. Together, the companies serve about 1,400 customers which operate discrete manufacturing plants.

Intercim provides information management systems that directly control manufacturing operations. These systems integrate design engineering, quality and manufacturing engineering with machines and personnel. Intercim's Art-to-Part systems transfer necessary manufacturing information from the engineering department directly to the point of production and manage that information on a real-time basis.

EMS's Time Critical Manufacturing products are a suite of manufacturing execution systems software that provide manufacturers with production management, shop-floor scheduling, inventory management, and other applications integrated with its Factory Workstation.

Intellution Awarded Patent for Dynamic Display Technology

Intellution (Norwood, Mass.), a manufacturer of industrial automation software, has been awarded a U.S. patent for its Display Object technology. This technology instantly detects updates needed for screen display and immediately redraws that portion of the display to reflect real-time changes in monitored data sources. The use of this object technology ensures real-time data display accuracy and reduces processing overhead in performing display updates. Display Object technology is incorporated in all Intellution products.
