"In a group of 100 professionals, less than five have had formal training in the field," stated Dr. Frazelle. "With the increasing importance of logistics, the increasing number of logistics professionals in logistics, and the increasing body of knowledge in the logistics arena, the logistics knowledge gap is large and increasing daily. LMI was created to close that gap."
When asked to distinguish the Logistics Management Institute and the program he founded at Georgia Tech, Dr. Frazelle explained, "LMI has an emphasis on logistics and supply chain management, reflected in the course content and titles. In addition, LMI courses include companion software tools, textbooks/monographs, readings and consistent formats."
LMI offers the Logistics Management Series, a series of eight principle-based courses spanning the definition of logistics. The courses include: Logistics & Supply Chain Strategy; Logistics Performance Measures: How to Benchmark and Audit Logistics Performance and Practices; Global Logistics & International Business; Transportation and Distribution Management; Inventory Planning & Management; Third-Party Logistics: If, When and How; World-Class Warehousing and Material Handling; and Logistics and Warehouse Management Systems.
The courses lead to a Logistics Management Certificate, a one-of-a-kind education program in the country, recognizing completion of all courses.
In addition, LMI offers the Logistics Excellence Program. This program is designed for corporate sponsors and features a large logistics bench-marking initiative.
LMI is directed by Dr. Edward H. Frazelle, founder of the Logistics Institute at Georgia Tech, Logistics Excellence Program representatives and a governing board of key logistics professionals.
