Bolstering Internet Security Infrastructure
Information Resource Engineering Inc., a provider of secure
communications systems solutions using encryption technology, has
taken significant steps in building a security infrastructure for the
Internet.
As part of its plan to bolster Internet security, IRE has partnered
with the U.S. Commerce Department's National Institute of Standards
and Technology (NIST) for the development of the public key
infrastructure (also known as PKI), which will make it possible to
send and receive digitally signed documents among organizations and
individuals. The NIST team is aiming to develop its minimum
interoperability specification, to ensure that PKI components will be
able to communicate with each other, regardless of manufacturer.
Members of the NIST team include AT&T Government Markets, BBN
Corp., Certicom Corp., Cylink Corp., DynCorp Information &
Engineering Technology Inc., Motorola, Northern Telecom Ltd.
(Nortel), SPYRUS Inc. and VeriSign, Inc.
