Bringing Web Commerce to Europe: WebMate and Kleline Form
Partnership
In an effort to bring full-featured electronic commerce to Europe,
WebMate International Inc. (Canton, Mass.), has formed a partnership
with Kleline in France. As part of this partnership, WebMate plans to
integrate Kleline's Globe ID GC TECH SA payment system into an
electronic payment module for the WebMate/Foundation Internet
application development environment. This integration of technologies
will provide a fully automated system for merchant store development
and deployment on the World Wide Web -- an offering not currently
available for European currencies.
While WebMate expects to announce U.S. payment system alliances in
the next quarter, the company partnered with Kleline to enter the
market early in European countries in order to establish a high
standard for Web commerce.
Kleline's Globe ID payment system is the exclusive processing system
in the European countries of France, Monaco, Andorra, Germany, United
Kingdom and Channel Islands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy, Spain,
Portugal and Switzerland, and French Overseas Departments and
territories. Kleline, owned by Compagnie Bancaire and LMVH, provides
a multi-purpose service that is accessible to all customers,
regardless of the country of connection and currency considered.
The Globe ID payment system, fully integrated into the
WebMate/Foundation environment will be available in the latter part
of the third quarter for less than US$1,000. The WebMate/Foundation
product (a suite of tools and a server-based platform that includes
built-in database functionality, an easy-to-use scripting language,
browser interface for rapid update of web page content, plug-in
modules for electronic commerce, interface to external SQL databases,
and enhanced security features such as full data encryption) is
available for downloading at WebMate's site at
http://www.WebMate.com.
