ELECTRONIC COMMERCE UPDATE
November/December 1996
New EC Patents
The EC Company (Palo Alto, Calif.) has applied for two technology
patents, one for its two-stage encryption process and one for its
method of providing communication security and a means of providing
electronic commerce between incompatible data processing systems. A
developer of "plug and play" electronic commerce software, The EC
Company has developed a data mapping technology that allows customers
to seamlessly transmit funds and data from their financial
application software package to The EC Company's software, where it
is then transported over a secure network to the customer's bank and
trading partner.
The first patent, titled "A System and Method for Providing
Communication Security," pertains to The EC Company's method for
securely transmitting data in a distributed network. The EC Company
has developed a two-stage encryption process that provides additional
security for data transmissions between businesses.
The second patent, titled "A Method and System for Providing
Electronic Commerce Between Incompatible Data Processing Systems,"
provides for an automated system for the electronic exchange of
electronic fund transfers and electronic data interchange-type
transactions between various business trading partners. This
technology ensures a more secure, robust and compatible business
transaction processing system by providing high security to the
electronic commerce community.
